CD SINGLE REVIEW - 'FIND THE WAY' BY STU GIBSON
FROM BURN BURN JULY '06

Birmingham born balladeer Adey’s ‘Find The Way’ is a slurred, spectral swoop of gentle, disconsolate hope tentatively touched, then torched, on piano. Swaddled in echo it sounds like the last will and testimony of a sharp yet shy tongue regaling rapturously unrequited love ruined on the road to romance and reminisce with plaintive lyrical pallor.
A resolutely solitary confessional hymn of stark beauty and desolate desires it verily palpitates and trembles in the perceived presence of this errant knights prize. Elegant and ethereal it resonates regally with the spiritual splendour of, say, John Martyn, James Yorkston, Jason Pierce and Will Oldham sheltering from a storm together, swapping stories in the nave of a church. Personal, proud and profound Adey proves he’s adept at almost preternaturally poised and ambient,
Pacific prayer pop.
